Connections Wall
Design I/O(Japan)
About
Connections Wall is an interactive installation created as an introductory experience for The Tech Interactive’s sustainability exhibit: Solve For Earth. The interactive wall consists of seven zones, each focusing on different sustainability parameters: Building Density, Water Management, Food Production, Energy Generation, Infrastructure and Resiliency, Transportation and Material Waste and Reuse.
Physical dials in each zone allow visitors to change these parameters, transforming the landscape in real-time to reflect the outcomes of those priorities and their impacts on land use, biodiversity, pollution and quality of life. In addition to the dials, depth cameras track visitors motion, allowing them to trigger animations and learn more about specific environmental impacts.
Prize Comment
Hello.
I am Emliy Gobielle and I am Theo Watson.
We are the founders of Interactive Studio Design I/O based in the Bay Area of Northern California.
We are delighted and honored to accept the Jury Speial Prize for our interactice special installation Connections Wall.
Connections Wall is an interactive experience for visiotrs of the Tech Interactivre Museum in San Jose. It is designed to introduce complex topics relating to sustainablity, resource management, and the way we live to our young audience.
In a way, Connections Wall is like a dynamic picutre book where visitors use dials to change prioirities like housing density, food production, energy and water use. And see what a world built around those priorities would look like or reflected in real time.
It’s an absolute joy to work on this project and it delights us every time we visit the museum and see the children study all the hidden details and connection that are on display.
From all of us here at Design I/O it’s an honor to receive this award.
We wish we could join you in person. And to the jury and the Digital Ehon team, thank you very much.
