My Cells and I

Omer Viner(Israel)

About

“My Cells and I” is an interactive children’s book which combines a mobile phone and takes the reader on a journey into the human body and the cells of which it’s composed while teaching biology subjects. The journey starts at the human body and dives into the body tissue, the cells, the organelles inside of the cells and the DNA. It allows children to interact, touch, get curious and ask question about the building blocks of the body and what is inside of them.

I began this project a year ago out of personal interest in the encounter between print and the screen, and went on to complete the book for my final project at the Bezalel Academy of Arts and Design in Visual Communication, led by Amitay Gilad.

When you turn over the picture book and insert a smartphone there, a new world spreads.
Don’t you feel a bit excited for just that?
You will learn the function of the cell while enjoying both the texture of paper and the operational feeling of the touch screen.
It takes advantage of the characteristics of each media, “screens of picture books that can be checked at any time” and “screens of smartphones recognizing real movement”. I felt the possibility that it could be used to other themes as well.(Ujihashi)
